From Band to Coalition

Floodlight Revolution is undergoing a transition, which you’re probably aware of if you’ve been following founder, James A. Miller. In 2011, Floodlight Revolution began as an outlet for Miller’s desire to engage the world with the timeless truth of God’s Word, the Bible. It became a band, which recorded one short project. A few performances followed for the band, but more than anything, James’ performance calendar dates skyrocketed.

So here it is 2015, and the band hasn’t played a lot of shows, but James has done a whole lot revolving around the mission of Floodlight Revolution – “Shining intense light into dark hearts.” Most of the band members and founders are still involved in the mission of Floodlight Revolution, yet they each have their own projects. So, here’s the next evolutionary step of Floodlight Revolution.

Floodlight Revolution is transitioning to a ministry group intent of using their creative ability to engage a lost world with much needed truth. James A. Miller is the first official solo artist of the coalition. His official website can be found below. Other artists are in talks with management about becoming Floodlight Revolution artists. Ultimately, the hope is that the artists can be stronger together, while maintaining their individuality.

Other hopes for 2015 are to begin producing individual recording projects and performances for each artist, with the possibility of adding a record label under the Floodlight Revolution moniker. Stay tuned for further developments.

Going Solo

Going Solo

Alrighty, here’s what’s up y’all. If you’ve been following my creative journey for a while, you know I’ve been an instrumentalist, vocalist, and songwriter for several groups, doing original and cover music. For years I did that under the pseudonym Jay Arthur, until I killed off that character.

In 2011 I formed the band Floodlight Revolution to challenge listeners to seek Truth. As a band, it didn’t play a lot, but released an E.P. on Independence Day, 2014. Each musician had their own thing going on, but meanwhile my solo calendar has been full. I’ve always being a “band guy”, so this is a change of gears. So here’s what’s going to happen.

I’m going solo! (Or is that rogue?) Floodlight Revolution will continue to exist as a ministry organization and independent record label for Gospel-minded creatives, recording and producing projects, etc. While Floodlight Revolution won’t necessarily be a band anymore, I’m continually performing or producing in some capacity. I will continue to honor my Lord with the music I create and perform, along with my various other services. My goal is to lead others to lives of real worship.

So, there you have it. James A. Miller, solo artist. I’m performing originals, covers, CCM, & worship music. I’m DJ’ing, preaching, serving as a worship leader, and guest musician. I hope to release my first full length solo album in 2015. My release with FR is still available too. Presently I provide vocal, instrumental, and audio technical support to various St. Louis area churches.

Who You’ll Do What With

Two of the most important decisions you will make in your life are what you will do for a living, and who you will share your life with. Generally speaking, most of us are meant to be married. Genesis 2 (ESV) records the “Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for[e] him.””, Let us examine this general statement in such terms. (e. Genesis 2:18 Or corresponding to; also verse 20)

If you’ll recall, earlier God had provided what was needed for mankind to survive. He gave him a job to do, caring for the garden. Now God allows man to further reflect Him by expanding Adam’s responsibilities.

“19 Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam[g] there was not found a helper fit for him.”

(g. Genesis 2:20 Or the man)

Notice this structure:

  1. Man learns to provide for himself.
  2. He grows in responsibility, now caring for others, and defining his relationships with them. Those relationships reflect the duty God has given him.
  3. Man realizes everything has a mate except him. Despite the fulfilment of making a living and honoring God with his creativity, he’s lacking something. God created him with a need for a companion. Adam, and thereby we, were created with a need for God, and a need for each other, particularly a mate. Notice the scripture says “helper”.

A necessary side-step: First off, women were made to correspond to men…so none of this popular homosexuality stuff. We’ll deal with that issue at a separate time, but suffice it to say it’s an unresolved issue that needs to be dealt with in the lives of many hurting people. Now, back to this…

No other person will further define your life than your mate. That person needs to be a helper to you in living out the calling God has placed upon you. Eve was made from Adam, signifying the incompleteness we men have without our wife. What follows is a natural order by God’s practical design.

“21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. 22 And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made[h] into a woman and brought her to the man. 23 Then the man said,

“This at last is bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called Woman,
because she was taken out of Man.”

24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

(h. Genesis 2:22 Hebrew built)

Men, get your act together. When we have a wife, we aren’t to continue to depend upon our parents, but instead learn to define and live our lives relatively self-sufficiently, depending on what God has provided, and in unity with our wife. She needs to know to what length you would go for the two of you. She needs to know she’s worth it.

Women, don’t sabotage a good man who looks out for your well-being and follows the Lord. He needs your encouragement. He needs to know you believe he has what it takes. If God has placed a call upon your family, don’t fight the Lord and your husband both. You’ll both be miserable.

This is a joint mission. Consider each other. Husband and wife will more fully enjoy the benefits of a happy marriage when the husband leads in fulfilling God’s calling upon your family, and the wife is a helper in the cause. It’s a mutualistic symbiotic relationship. Despite the lies of the enemy to the contrary, there is no shame in this type of relationship. Inequality of the sexes (in either direction) be damned! This is a firm foundation set by God to build your lives together. Go take the world together!

Living with Divine Purpose

God created mankind with purpose. He made, if you will, a kind of blank slate for you and I to work upon, and to exercise our own brand of creation, which is really rearranging what He has created. He granted originally the ability to reflecting Himself, in that we may bring order and organization to what we have been entrusted with.

Genesis 2 (ESV) states:

5 When no bush of the field was yet in the land and no small plant of the field had yet sprung up—for the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground, 6 and a mist was going up from the land and was watering the whole face of the ground— 7 then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. 8 And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9 And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

We see that God created mankind with his soul, the breath of life, and provided what was pleasing and needed to survive. The tree of life was to sustain man. Also present was the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Every person that lives was created to work, serving as a reflection of the creativity of God. You would have been able to fulfil that role in your life, and be sustained, or you could have chosen to know the disparity between good and evil. Unfortunately the fullness of our ability to reflect God was stolen away in our ancestry when Adam traded fulfilling his purpose to explore the latter. We carry the effects of those choice within us.

Have you considered the purpose of your life? Of your labor? Are you thriving in fullness of life, or laboring in the tension between good and evil? Please consider these thoughts to your own benefit. We’ll explore further as time goes on.

Rest Well

Over the weekend I hope you found time to rest. Rest is a part of any healthy person’s life. You can’t go without it for too long, or you will pay the price. If your life is composed of it, it will soon unravel. We would do well if we followed the Lord’s teaching and made a day of rest in our calendars each week. God demonstrated a day of rest to us as recorded in the book of Genesis, chapter 2 (ESV).

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. 3 So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.

It seems God planned His Creation work in advance to fit the order of His schedule. Certainly God has resumed His work from that time. In keeping with God’s teaching, I know you’ll find blessing in your life if you adopt such a life practice, and even more so if you seek to make it holy and pleasing to God.

Some would argue on which day one should rest. Others say it doesn’t matter if you do it with the intention of honoring God with your work and your rest. Obviously those who work in certain professions can’t abide by the strict rules of others. Jesus taught that the Sabbath (day of rest) was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. For now, let it suffice to pick one with holy intent and make it practice. You and your family will benefit. If you’ve just begun your work-week, or you’re finishing it off, may the Lord bless the works of your hands, and may your rest be pleasing to Him. May it be refreshing to you.

Changing Religious Beliefs…

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton stated in her keynote address at the 2015 Women in the World Summit on Thursday in New York that “deep seated cultural codes, religious beliefs, and structural biases have to be changed,” speaking of women having the ability to murder their unborn children with what a blinded society calls “abortion”.

Herein lie a number of problems. First on the list is direct disobedience against the commands of Almighty God, namely the sixth commandment, “You shall not *murder.” (Exodus 20:13 – ESV) (*The Hebrew word also covers causing human death through carelessness or negligence.)

Then again, Romans 1 also speaks of Mrs. Clinton:

“28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. 29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.”

Secondly, Mrs. Clinton is on record encouraging others to do what ought not to be done, with no regard for the Lord and His righteous decrees whatsoever. See, the heart of the issue is not that she and many conservatives disagree on the issue of abortion. It’s that she believes others should change what they believe to be true about murdering unborn children, so that they find themselves in opposition to God. She states what she “says and believes” about the issue, which shows the error of her heart.

The very definition of sin is to act as if we know better than God. It’s the same pride that brought the downfall of Satan. It’s the attitude that will convict Hillary Clinton before Almight God on Judgment Day, and all those who do not repent, confessing Jesus as their Lord and Savior. May we each be convinced of the Truth, and change the error of our ways.

I’ll go on public record to state I will never change my “cultural codes, religious beliefs, and structural biases” on this issue. Children are a blessing from God. Blessed be the Lord and His judgment upon us if we are unrepentant. Thank you Lord for salvation by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ.

Thoughts on Creation

Have you thought about what it means to create? Only God creates something from nothing. He reveals all things in the light of Truth. He has purpose in what He has created, and causes order. He offers us purpose and order in our lives today. He offers to us an ongoing process to build us upon a firm foundation – Himself – into what we should become. The Creator of everything allows us to either define our own purpose with our finite understanding, or to choose to assume our responsibility as the caretakers of the earth and all that live upon it. Genesis 1 tell us mankind was created in the image of God. In all that we define ourselves with, and labor to create in our lives, isn’t it time to stop settling for cheapened substitutes? Who could know better what we ought to do with ourselves than the One that created us?

This Is a Call

If you’ve been a follower of Floodlight Revolution’s James “J” Miller & his musical adventures, you know where his heart is. It’s about getting the Word of Life into the hearts and minds of people. Likewise, this is the purpose of the musical entity known as Floodlight Revolution. Here’s the thing though. “Floodlight Revolution” isn’t meant to be the name of just another band. It is meant to represent a commonality of purpose in the hearts of the fans.

J says this: “I want like-minded people to work together, engaging their brothers and sisters of humanity with Truth and Love. Sure we’ll play a traditional venue, because we always want to glorify God with this gift He’s given us, called music. What I really want though is to go wherever we can to use that art, the creativity, and passion of God’s people, to reach out to those who don’t know the God that created the universe has a fulfilling script written for their lives.”

How can J and his band become part of the Floodlight Revolution that you are shining upon your perishing brothers and sisters? What event can we help you with? We have an hour and a half performance ready on short notice, a small PA system, the ability to perform in a living room, or the ability to lead worship for church related events. If the latter, we have hours of songs already prepared, ready to be sung along with. Club show, back yard party, block party, bonfire, Disciple Now, church retreat… Contact us below, and together let us be the Floodlight Revolution!

Brothers and Sisters: Stand Strong!

Christians, stand strong despite the pressures of a decaying society! There are portions of the church that have compromised life in keeping with the Word of God, and many are becoming strangers to the Lord. The Episcopal Church is in shambles due to such action, yet there are those who remain faithful to the Lord, maintaining that a lifestyle of sin is not one to be lived or supported by those who claim to be in Christ.
